Scripture Union Daily Guide 29 January 2022 | Devotional Note

Today we end our meditations on the teachings of Jesus, sometimes called ‘the Sermon on the plain’. The emphasis on growth and stability as Christians is important for us as we progress through this year. However, in these days of environmental and spiritual pollutions, trees that are from good seeds and origin get diseased and so produce bad fruits. In our context, as Christians we should be ready to be continually pruned through repentance and renewal to be fruitful and to bear fruit that abides (cf. John 15:1‐6, 16).

We note however every tree bears its own kind of fruit. We should therefore be mindful of how we live our lives because “whatsoever a man sows, that shall he reap”. Just as we need repentance to produce good fruit, we need understanding and obedience to be stable and strong. Many ruin their lives and testimonies because they neglect this simple rule. Note that the roots and foundations that hold up trees and buildings are often not visible.

Similarly, it is our practice of prayer and bible meditation during our Quiet Time with the Lord that will make us grow and be stable in our walk with Him.

Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer
• Thank you, Father, that your purpose for us is to grow and be stable.

Prayer for the week
• Pray for ministries ad ministers that they do not forget the call of God upon their lives. That God will expose all false witnesses and all the wolves in sheep clothing. Spiritual alertness to avoid deviation from the truth of God’s word.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with
Philippians 4:19; Exodus 1,2, Psalms 25
